Why buy an RV?

PQB News Feature: Amazing memories await with your vacation home-away-from-home – on wheels!

While distant travels may be off the itinerary for the time-being, Vancouver Islanders are in a unique position to enjoy an array of beautiful getaways, right in our own backyard!

But, why buy an RV?

From dramatic oceanside landscapes to forested retreats, so many memory-making experiences with family and friends await. But exploring nature needn’t mean cool nights in a tent hoping the rain holds off. In fact, today’s recreational vehicles offer so many options, it may be time to explore whether the RV lifestyle is for you:

What kind of RV do you want? Recreational vehicles are divided into several different classes, with additional options for trailers.

  • Class A motorhomes are the largest of RV motorhomes, featuring either gas or diesel engines. Many boast multiple slide-out sections that expand the living space, including kitchens, bedroom and sitting areas.
  • Class B motorhomes, or camper vans, include kitchens, washrooms and sleeping areas in a full-size, often expanded van that’s easy to drive and park.
  • Class C motorhomes are designed with a cab-over bunk and include many of the amenities of other motorhomes.
  • Travel trailers come in a similar range of sizes and designs, from traditional tent-trailers to large fifth-wheels, with many of the space and comfort features of the larger motorhomes, but with the flexibility of having a separate vehicle once the trailer is detached.

With so many options, choosing the right model can be overwhelming, and speaking with a local expert can be a good place to start, says Andy Lankester, Parksville’s Harris Oceanside RV. Consider whether you want an all-in-one unit, with the option of towing a small vehicle, for example, or would you prefer a truck and trailer? What size are you comfortable driving? Are you interested in a more rustic experience, more akin to traditional camping, or is luxury on wheels your go-to getaway?

Take a look inside: While features can vary significantly based on model and luxury level, if you haven’t been inside an RV lately you’ll likely be surprised. Stepping inside, sitting on the sofa and opening the cupboards is a must, but start by exploring our inventory online, scrolling through numerous images for each model, inside and out, to help pinpoint your needs and wants.

“We’ve never had a better selection that we’ve had right now,” Lankester says. “As more people discover the possibilities of RVing, it just keeps getting better and better.”

Check back often: With new consignment inventory on the way, keep an eye on both the website, where you’ll find features and photos for current vehicles. See something you like? Stop by Oceanside RV at 472 East Island Hwy., beside Tim Hortons, to find your next home away from home on wheels!
